Hello my name is Michael Barton and the Lord has called me to go to the state of Chiapas, Mexico. Chiapas is the 2nd most indigenous people groups in the country as well as being the poorest state. In October 2020, I attended language school in the state of Oaxaca and had the privilege of staying with two different Mexican families during that time. I joined World Indigenous Missions or WIM in July 2021.
I am living in Chiapas for my two-year internship with WIM for continued missionary training. I am living with the indigenous believers, going on mission trips, serving in various ways, and most importantly learning from them. The goal of this is that after or even during my two years of training, I will have the tools necessary to establish other home fellowships which can be run by the indigenous people and are self-propagating, and self-sufficient.
My mission is to build home fellowships by discipling the indigenous people in their relationship with Jesus, teaching them to do the work of the ministry, take charge of it, and go out to teach others to do the same. I strive to continue to learn from the indigenous people, their language, culture, and to serve the people humbly in the name of Jesus.
